Marriage, You didn't Know, Its in now!!

This is the day, it’s finally here, the bride will meet her groom at the alter.  She’s dressed in all white and he’s dressed to kill.  Everyone looks on in awe at this beautiful portrayal of love and image of their happily ever after.  Red Light….Red Light!!!!  Let me stop right there.  What you don’t know is this couple is getting married because “it’s the thing to do”.  The bride is expecting a baby or maybe they’ve just hit that plateau where just living together without the benefits of marriage just isn’t going to cut it.  Many people rush to the alter for all the wrong reasons and or they just want to plan a wedding.  We have to remember that a wedding is only one day while marriage is for a life time.  It seems that our society has capitalized so much on weddings that now every time you turn on the TV you might just catch celebrity couples tie the knot.  However what isn’t always depicted in these fairy tale accounts of marriage is that almost over half of them end in divorce.  Well we do hear of some of the nasty divorces as this is a business also in Hollywood.  It’s a shame but it’s the truth.  We as a people must start putting a higher value on marriage and respecting the covenant made before God and our families.  Take time out to really get to know yourself because in discovering who you are you will also began to unfold what you desire in a mate.  Don’t be so quick to jump the broom with someone just because they give you butterflies when you think about them.  Have you done your background check?  What’s his/her job history like, how are they with their family or children if they have any, do they respect their parents, what’s their credit score, do they know how to communicate, and do they have ambition?  All these are questions you should be asking of a potential mate.  Go in laying the foundation for a good friendship cause nothing is worse than the fact that you and your spouse aren’t even good friends.  Realize that real love takes work and once you’re passed that stage of bliss you will have to be willing to work.  So if love isn’t something you want to work at then you might want to reconsider marrying that baller because when the money runs out you gone have to work at it sweetie.  Don’t sale yourself short and get so caught up in the fantasy of a wedding day.  Yes we all want a beautiful wedding but what I want you to do is see past the wedding day and imagine yourself nurturing your husband back to health when he’s sick, comforting your husband when he looses his job etc.  For any singles considering marriage I fist recommend you take an inventory of yourself and consider are you willing to make the sacrifice.
